10th December 2019

On Wednesday 4th December, students from carpentry and joinery had the chance to experience what it was like to use HoloLens headsets within the construction environment.

Danielle, a Building Surveyor and John, a Technical Officer from East Riding of Yorkshire Council kindly gave our students a talk on the benefits of using augmented reality and virtual reality within construction. Then came the really fun part…testing out the headsets!

The wearable technology allowed our students to visualise construction sites and projects, identify site risks, have hands-free access to blueprints and even interact with the models. The students walked around building sites, inspected roof structures and even went underwater with sharks in an aquarium.

Learning about new technologies and trialling them out will not only keep our students up to date with Carpentry and Joinery advancements but prepare them for future employment and what they need to know to progress their careers.
