Find out why Ana Rita Machado chose Goole College to study her Foundation Degree.
Why did you choose to study at Goole College?
Initially I was unaware of the variety of courses Goole College had to offer however wanting to pursue a career in teaching and discovering YCLD on my door step provided me with the perfect opportunity to further my education.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
This course has provided me with a deep understanding of children’s learning and development, enlightening aspects I were completely unaware linked. As a young practitioner with less experience I became mesmerised by the knowledge and understanding displayed in the room not only from my amazing tutor but from my college peers too. This inspired me to continue and develop more confidence within my role.
How did your tutors support you?
My tutor all throughout the Foundation Degree has been my inspiration, initially I had doubts upon doing the degree however she empowered me to apply and explained she wouldn’t have put me through a course she didn’t believe I could achieve. Michelle’s support enabled me to maintain on the right path, offering varied creative lessons to meet all our individual learning styles.
How has the course helped your career?
After volunteering at a school for many years this course has enabled me to gain my first job as a nursery practitioner, through the support of my tutor and peers I gained confidence to apply and successfully gained the job. I was able to practice and gain an understanding of the interview stage within an early years setting following one of the modules presented on the course.
I am currently completing the BA Honours Degree in Hull and although there is more travel I am extremely enjoying the course. YCLD has opened many doors and I’m so proud to have reached this far.
What advice would you give to anyone looking to apply?
It is an amazing opportunity to enhance your knowledge on children and provides the right tools to become a successful practitioner. If you are passionate then apply. Just go for it! These years can make a huge difference.
